Best New Gear from Overland Expo West 2026: What Actually Matters for Off-Road Builders

Overland Expo West 2026 wrapped in Flagstaff last weekend with 28,500 attendees and over 420 vendors. Most of it is stuff you've seen before with a new colorway. But a handful of products actually moved the needle — and a few are genuinely worth paying attention to if you're mid-build or planning your next rig upgrade.

ARB Launches Its First US Winch Line

This is the headline. ARB has been selling bumpers, lockers, and recovery gear in the US for decades, but they've never had a winch here — until now. The 10,000-pound and 12,000-pound ARB winches launched at the show and are now available through ARB dealers and their website.

Both winches ship with synthetic line standard, which alone puts them ahead of most options at the price point. They're IP68-rated (fully waterproof), use a custom Albright contactor with direct motor connection for better heat management under load, and have 16 mounting positions with 22 degrees of clockability per position. That last part matters more than people realize — being able to dial in the exact angle on the drum makes routing the line cleaner and keeps the fairlead load more consistent.

The integrated corded/cordless controller with a 16-foot cable is a nice touch. Having a hardwired fallback on a wireless-capable winch is the right call for trail use. The 10k is $1,370 and the 12k is $1,470 — competitive with Warn VR EVO pricing and with better spec on the synthetic line and IP rating.

If you've been waiting for a reason to trust ARB's build quality in a winch the way you trust it in their bumpers and lockers, that reason now exists. These are worth considering seriously against the Warn and Smittybilt options most people default to.

REDARC REDWorks Power Panels: Pre-Wired Power Management That Actually Makes Sense

Power management is one of the messiest builds in any overlanding rig — dual batteries, solar, fridge, lighting, all running through a cobbled-together system of fuses and wire that eventually causes problems. REDARC's new REDWorks Power Panels are purpose-built, pre-wired units designed to clean that up.

There are four tiers. The Scout25 at $1,350 is a 25A unit for weekend warriors who want a fridge and some lighting without the complexity of a full system. The Nomad50 at $2,200 is the one most serious builders should look at — 50A capacity, full RedVision monitoring, EV and hybrid vehicle compatibility (important for 4th gen Tacoma hybrid and 6th gen 4Runner hybrid owners), and pre-wired for shore power and vehicle charge. The Pioneer50 at $2,900 adds on-board RedVision control. The QuickFit panels at $6,450–$6,900 are for full-size rigs.

The value here is in the labor savings. A clean REDARC install beats spending 20 hours on a DIY wiring job that needs to be redone in two years. If you're building out a 4Runner or Tacoma for serious overland use and you've been putting off the power system because of the complexity, the Nomad50 is worth pricing out against what a custom install would cost.

23Zero Kabari Z: The Hardshell RTT to Actually Watch

The rooftop tent market is genuinely crowded right now, but the 23Zero Kabari Z stood out at the show for a few reasons. It's a wedge-style hardshell with a laser-welded 2mm aluminum clamshell — that's a more durable shell construction than most competitors at the price point. Gas strut-assisted with their Z-lift geometry means opening is smooth and requires minimal effort even when the platform is loaded.

The Kabari Z has four-way access with oversized doors on all sides, a stargazing window, dimmable LED lighting, and an integrated power module with USB-A, USB-C, and 12V outlets — all standard, not optional. The 2.4-inch self-inflating mattress with a condensation mat underneath is a thoughtful inclusion for cold-weather use. Price is $4,495 with free shipping and the first shipment expected within the next month or so.

At $4,495 it's not cheap, but it's priced below the iKamper Skycamp 3.0 and comes with a more complete feature set than Thule's new Widesky (also $4,000 at the show, but with a 3.5-inch mattress and no integrated power module). If you're shopping hardshells in the $4,000–$5,000 range, the Kabari Z should be on your shortlist.

AT Overland Aterra ASI: The Tacoma Slide-In Worth Knowing About

Slide-in campers for mid-size trucks have always been compromised by weight — the truck's payload capacity simply doesn't leave much room for a camper that's actually equipped. AT Overland addressed this with the Aterra ASI by using all-honeycomb composite construction bonded with aerospace-grade adhesives. The fully loaded unit weighs 1,049 pounds, which is genuinely light for what it includes.

The base spec at $32,000 includes a REDARC power management system, roof-mounted solar, a roof fan, and pre-wiring for Starlink. The fully optioned unit at $44,739 adds a water tank, electric hot water heater, outside shower, inside sink, fridge/freezer, forced-air heat, and air conditioning. The 64-inch wide bed fits two people. Step 22 storage cubies are configurable.

This is obviously not a budget play — it's for the Tacoma owner who wants a self-contained setup without stepping up to a full-size truck. 5-month production lead time with orders open now. If the truck topper vs. slide-in question has been on your mind for a while, this is the most complete answer the mid-size market has had.

The Takeaway

The ARB winch launch is the real news from this show — it's a brand you already know making a move into a product category they've earned the credibility to enter. The REDARC power panels are a legitimate labor-saver for anyone building out a serious overland rig. The RTT market continues to mature with the Kabari Z as a strong new option. And the AT Aterra ASI finally gives Tacoma builders a credible slide-in option that doesn't crush the payload rating.
